In the aftermath of a significant loss, life as you know it may feel like it has come to an abrupt stop. Everything instantly transforms and may even feel like the world has flipped upside down yet the world around you keeps going as if nothing happened at all.

But loss did happen. Your loss. Your grief. Grief has arrived at your door and you may be left holding fragmented pieces of your life ā€˜before’ while trying to make sense of your life now.

This experience can be incredibly brutal and excruciatingly raw. Your world has shattered into a million little pieces while the world around you continues on as usual. There is no possible way to put your world back together again in the same way it once was.

The reality of that is so painful. This is intensified by the task of trying to accept the unacceptable. How does one even begin to accept the unacceptable? To rebuild and rise above the ashes when everything seems to have burned to the ground? To keep moving and finding ways to keep living forward with the rest of the world can feel impossible. And in the beginning of such new and raw pain, it is natural to feel this way. It can feel surreal to stand in the shadows of your grief and watch the world march on.

There is no easy route. There is no way to bypass the mess and chaos that grief brings but over time your brain will be able to accept the unacceptable. The shock will fade and you can begin to process the pain and the grief you feel. One step at a time you can rejoin your community and discover ways to integrate your grief into your life. There is no reverse gear but you can slowly and steadily start to move forward. Hang on in there and use the support of those around or reach out to a mental health professional.

You do not have to do it alone.

Sending you lots of love and light!

Lisa
